ইংরেজি ২য় পত্র: Narration
প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থী, আজ ইংরেজি দ্বিতীয় পত্রের ৭ নম্বর প্রশ্ন অর্থাৎ Narration/Speech Change নিয়ে আলোচনা করব। এই প্রশ্নে একটি passage Indirect Speech দেওয়া থাকবে। প্রথমে Narration/Speech Change পরিবর্তনের নিয়ম অনুসরণ করে নিজেরা চেষ্টা করবে। তারপর উত্তর মিলিয়ে নেবে।
# Change the narrative style by using indirect speeches.
1.
“Jannat, have you done your English lesson today?” said the teacher. “Yes, sir,” she replied. “But I haven’t understood one grammatical point.” “Don’t worry. It’s not so difficult. I’ll help you understand it,” said the teacher. “Thank you, sir. I’ll see you during the off period,” she said.
Answer: The teacher asked Jannat if she had done her English lesson that day. She (J) politely replied that she had, but added that she had not understood one grammatical point. The teacher told her not to worry as it was not so difficult and assured her that he would help her understand it. She thanked him politely and said that she would see him during the off period.
2.
“Why don’t you attend classes regularly?” the teacher said to the student. “You can’t expect good results unless you attend classes as I tell you.” “I am sorry, sir, I have offended you,” said the student.
Answer: The teacher asked the student why he (s) didn’t attend classes regularly and told him that he (s) couldn’t expect good results unless he (s) attended classes as he (t) told him. The student respectfully replied/answered that he (s) was sorry as he had offended him (t).
3.
The traveller said to the peasant, “Can you tell me the way to the nearest inn?” The peasant said, “Yes, I can. Do you want one in which you can spend the night?” The traveller said, “I don’t wish to stay there. I only want a meal.” “Follow me and I will take you to a nice one.” On the way, the traveller said, “You are a good man. I am grateful to you.” “It is my pleasure to help a man in difficulty,” said the peasant.
Answer: The traveller asked the peasant if he (p) could tell him (t) the way to the nearest inn. The peasant replied in the affirmative and said that he could. He (p) asked him (t) if he (t) wanted one in which he (t) could spend the night. The traveller replied that he (t) did not wish to stay there and also said that he (t) only wanted a meal. Then, the peasant told him (t) to follow him (p) and he (p) would take him (t) to a nice one. On the way, the traveller told the peasant that he (p) was a good man and he (t) was grateful to him (p). At that, the peasant said that it was his pleasure to help a man in difficulty.
