The states of North Kordofan (south of Khartoum) and North Darfur (western Sudan) issued a decision on Monday to declare a state of emergency and impose a curfew in them, from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, after protests and violence in the capitals of El-Obeid and El-Fasher.
The Sudanese News Agency said that the governor of North Kordofan, Khaled Mustafa Adam, also decided to suspend studies in the state until February 14, after peaceful demonstrations of school students, which he said turned into “acts of looting and sabotage.”
Adam ordered the formation of a supreme committee to investigate the events that took place, Monday, saying that “the criminals will be brought to justice.”
The North Darfur State Security Committee, in its emergency meeting held on Monday, headed by the Secretary-General of the State Government, Al-Hafiz Bakhit Muhammad, issued a decision to ban curfews in the city of El Fasher from Monday evening until 6:00 am Tuesday.
The governor of North Darfur, Mohamed Hassan Arabi, who is currently visiting the federal capital, said that he submitted a detailed report to the Prime Minister, Abdullah Hamdok, on the overall situation in the state, especially the security situation, and the events that it witnessed over the course of two days, and the development that led to the burning of Al-Fasher locality, the prosecution, and a police car. .
Arabi confirmed on his Facebook page that the State Security Committee had taken the necessary legal measures towards the murder of a farmer, describing the sabotage events that occurred as an investment of that crime.
He stressed that violence will not be tolerated at all, pointing out that he directed the suspension of all schools in the city for a period of 3 days.
Arabi instructed the police and the joint operations room to rely on emergency laws, to protect public and private property, to prevent breaching public peace.
Residents of the eastern neighborhoods of the city of El Fasher, from the “dead farms”, declared a sit-in at the eastern gate, and closed the national road on Sunday and Monday, calling on the authorities to arrest the perpetrators, who fled and left more than 1500 camels at the site of the accident, according to the Sudanese News Agency.
