Back and breaking the Internet with reunion tour: Why you should listen to iconic Britpop band Oasis (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, August 29 — Legendary Britpop band Oasis broken the Internet with the official confirmation of their reunion tour next year starting which will begin in the UK.

Music lovers were united in joy as feuding brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher set aside their differences to get back on stage together after 15 years.

From being the face of the Britpop era in the 1990’s to having platinum singles and all seven of their studio albums charting at the top of the Official UK Albums Chart according to Billboard- — here’s are reasons (if you needed more) why you should definitely, maybe check out Oasis

Who are Oasis?

The rock band formed in Manchester in 1991 with five members (Liam asked Noel to join their band a few months after the band’s formation).

Original members include guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthur, bassist Paul ‘Guigsy’ McGuigan and drummer Tony McCarroll.

According to the Standard UK, McGuigan was the one who actually started the band The Rain which eventually turned into Oasis with Liam brought in to replace their lead vocalist Chris Hutton at that time.

Arthur, who has been with the band since the beginning, reportedly played a key role in bringing back the Gallagher brothers together for the 2025 reunion.

McCarroll was the first of the original members to split from the band back in 1999 after Noel openly criticised his style of drumming which led to him filing a legal action against Oasis, which was ultimately settled outside of court in March 1999.

The band then saw a fair share of new members coming in to replace their foundational members such as Andy Bell who came to replace McGuigan and McCarroll was replaced with Alan White who went on to be Oasis’ longest drummer who stayed with them until 2004.

What are they known for?

Apart from being ‘proper rock stars’ with the fastest selling debut album in British history — with Definitely Maybe surpassing five million sales in the UK and certified 17-times platinum — Oasis is also infamously known for the back and forth bickering between the Gallagher brothers throughout the years.

In fact, the band’s split back in August 28 2009 where they disbanded just minutes before taking the stage at Rock en Seine festival in Paris — was because Noel and Liam got into a heated argument backstage.

“People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer,” Noel stated then.

Their fight beyond 2009 saw both of the Gallagher brothers often taking to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to trash talk each other — which gave us Liam’s infamous tweet calling Noel a ‘potato’ back in 2016.

Aside from bickering with each other, Oasis also have a love-hate relationship with another famous Britpop band Blur, led by frontman Damon Albarn who was also behind virtual band, Gorillaz.

According to the BBC, Britpop — led by the two acts — emerged in the UK from the mid to late 1990s became more than just a genre of music, influencing UK pop culture from fashion to personalities.

In August 1995, Oasis and Blur went head-to-head by releasing singles on the same day in a battle to see whose song would top the charts.

Blur went on to win the battle through their Country House single against Oasis’ Roll with It in what is regarded as one of the iconic moments in British music history.
